POINTS OF INTEREST
- McTavish was on watch together with Chief Officer Robert Hume at the time of the explosion that sank the Britannic.
- Whilst serving as 4th Officer on the Adriatic, on at least 1 occasion the 1st Officer was George Oliver, Britannic’s former 1st Officer.
- On the Adriatic he served under the command of Captain Ranson, who he knew previously from the Britannic.
- Whilst serving as 3rd Officer on the Cedric, on at least 2 occasions, the 2nd Officer was Joseph Groves Boxhall; Boxhall survived the Titanic disaster, he was 4th Officer on the ship.
- He sailed as a passenger on the Imperator, arriving at New York on August 08, 1920.
- McTavish seems to have left the White Star Line in 1920, it is possible that he didn’t see enough perspective anymore and therefore joined a company where he could receive higher ranks.
- The SS Oneka, on which he served as 2nd Officer, departed from Shanghai, China for New York.
